KAYLEE RICHARDS

List five things you think of when you hear “Southern California”. Odds are one of them was “traffic”. As most California natives do, I spend a lot of time sitting in traffic, but, of course, being a dancer, traffic has emerged into a place of inspiration. The angsty drivers interacting with the drivers around them, the formation of the vehicles, the choreography of everything moving going on around the stand still traffic. Basically, what I’ve learned living in California is there is art and inspiration all around us; even in the mundane.

I have earned by Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Bachelors Degree in Communication Studies from Chapman University. I have performed in the West Hollywood Dance Festival and worked with several students within Chapman University Dodge Film School (the #6 film school in the nation). I attended American Dance Festival in 2017 where I studied Gaga, Forsythe technique and phrase work, and Improvisation for Performance.

In addition to my studies at ADF, the subjects I studied at Chapman included Dance in Film, Dance Teaching Methods, Anatomy, Kinesiology, Music for Dancers, Yoga and Pilates for Dancers, Somatics, and more. I also attended and presented research at the 2017 NDEO (National Dance Education Organization) in 2017.

I look forward to continuing to grow as an artist and mover postgrad and exploring all that comes my way.
